I mean, anything before 6am is just an ungodly hour to begin with, so WHY must my dog be adamant about getting up right now?

Of course, its because she has a new friend.

Meet Gigi.

Gigi belongs to my mother-in-law and weighs all of 8 pounds soaking wet.  Georgia, my weimaraner, is packing about 55 these days.  The first several times we tried to introduce the two pups Georgia was so excited that we were afraid she might crush little G in an attempt to play with her; but yesterday we had success!

After being assaulted and picked on during her first trip to the dog park, Georgia was EXHAUSTED. (Which, for a weimaraner, is a rare thing.)  After a nice warm bath to clean off all the dog slobber and caked on red clay we tried the meeting again.

They did great!  Georgia wanted to play so bad but just laid down and rolled over to get on G’s level.  Her little propeller (Matt and I refer to her “tail” as her propeller) was wagging so far her whole butt was shaking!  Success!

Well, sort of.

You see, Laquita gets up about 4.30 every morning to get ready for work.  Every morning, Gigi comes to our bedroom door to find Georgia.  And every morning, Georgia gets up and whines because she wants to greet her friend on the other side of the door.

And so, although I’m not a fan of 4.40am, its kind of sweet really.  Inconvenient, but sweet.  They love each other and there couldn’t be anything more important than seeing each other first thing in the morning- even sleep.

The analogy only goes so far- they are, afterall, only dogs- but I could imagine that the Lord would be really excited if we felt that kind of urgency about seeing Him in the mornings.  How long has it been since we were so insistent on being together with Him in the morning that time seemed to have very little significance.

Its been a while for me, to be honest.  Maybe I could learn something of love and devotion from my dog.
